Ring photograph collection captured by Portland's Wedding Photographer Guy

Pretty cool wedding ring photographs, indeed.

Ring photographs are probably my favorite thing to photograph at a wedding (unless we're counting the food-plate shot, but I think that's because the ring wouldn't taste as good). The reason being, it's naturally a time-consuming process to bust out the 100mm lens and settle down on some macro shots, but it's so fun to stage a space that hits the vibes of the wedding and speaks to a couple's character through some simple little items. However, the best part of it all is - let's face it - it's a chance to curl up in a corner somewhere and recharge the social battery while maintaining productivity.

Collected in this section are just some of the ring shots I've enjoyed. I'll try to update this gallery over time, every year or so. I usually try to capture rings in even natural light. Using a macro lens requires more depth of field, which requires more light. For this reason, I find it better to capture rings when the light is out. If at a wedding, I usually aim to do these during downtime of preparation or around dinner if well before sundown. I rarely use strobes for these images, and of course, I don't always do it the same. I get every detail I can find on a wedding day, and many variations of important aspects like the ring when fitting, such as rings being slipped on during the ceremony, rings next to other important items, and, like the bulk of this collection, the close-ups. There are many experience levels and hidden ranks for professional photographers around the world. Choosing the best option can be frustrating to understand who is and isn't a good option, depending on so many factors. I'm not saying rings and details are everyone's priority, but if wanting all of the details of a wedding day captured from rings to mountains and sky that capture the heart and soul of the experience, make sure your photographer is capable. Well, that and that their demeanor meets your needs.

If you're on the hunt in Portland (or anywhere, I could certainly use an adventure, as they're becoming rare after taking on our studio), make sure to say hello. I'm laid back, alt, not someone who offends easily, and I manage chaos with ease. If I'm not a great fit, I'll send you in the best direction.

Cheers.
